These are a series of ways people die by accident....the victim is usually the person that "deserves" it. Although it seems to be portrayed in a humorous manner(and it is for the most part), there are excellent graphics that explain the pathologies of these deaths. There are many places in each of these series where one can pause and discuss what is happening in a more serious manner. I love it and all my students love it. 1000 Ways should NOT be used as a "babysitter" for the teacher nor a substitute. I teach Anatomy/Physiology, Forensic Science, Chemistry, and Biology. This series uses all of these branches of science together in a nice convenient small package...Watch a few of these and you will be convinced immediately of all the possibilities one can utilize...besides they ARE fun to watch!!!

I liked it and the character explaination was surprisingly good. Megan Fox at this time will not be considered one of the premier acting voices and her movie choices will be geared towards her sex appeal but that's OK, she still lights up the screen and will do so for quite some time.

We're all aware that not much can compare to the original Lion King film. The animation, songs, voices...everything just perfection. However, as an ardent fan of the film, and in particular Timon and Pumbaa, this was snapped up as soon it went on sale - and boy, what a nice surprise! A direct to video release that's actually decent!

This film is much of an improvement on the first "sequel". Simba's Pride just didn't hold any of the magic of the original story - and barely held my attention for one showing before being put onto the shelf to get dusty. I was immediately more interested in this film as I thought it's premise held much more entertainment quality. "Yeah, I'd like to see how everything was through Timon and Pumbaa's eyes" I thought, and I wasn't to be disappointed.

We're originally transported back to Timon's younger days to see why he came to team up with Pumbaa. It's dealt with very wittily, yet with enough warmth that you actually do care what happens to all involved. We're shown how Timon and Pumbaa meet, and how they embark on their quest for "Hakuna Matata". Much comedy ensues, with a revealing insight into the original film's events. Why do the animals bow at Simba's presentation at Pride Rock? Why does everyone fall over at the end of "I Just Can't Wait To Be King?" Watch to find out. Having eventually found their perfect home, their meeting with Simba is retold and we get to see some of Simba's teenage years - missed out in the original film. (Timon has a wonderful line during a particularly restless night looking after a young Simba - "we're gonna get old walking across this thing". As soon as you hear it you'll know exactly what it's getting at). Next to be dealt with is Simba's reunion with Nala and his trip home to Pride Rock to avenge his father's death. All seen in a new perspective it's all very watchable, even if you are seeing duplicated scenes that occurred in the original movie. The climax again adds more breadth to the original. With Scar and his minions vanquished and order restored in the Pridelands, Timon and Pumbaa settle into their new home with his original meerkat colony who are surprised and impressed with the new "all-action" Timon. This is very much Timon's film, we get to know a lot more about him than Pumbaa and it is Timon that saves the day right at the very end. That's no complaint I would add, after all we heard about some of Pumbaa's woes in the original film 10 years ago.

Disney have done a lot of things right with this film. The original cast (with the exception of Rowan Atkinson as Zazu which consistantly grates with me - he's much missed on the interactive section of the original movie's special edition too) return, and Julie Kavner and Jerry Stiller lend their vocies as Timon's nearest and dearest. Two new, annoyingly catchy songs appear within the first 15 minutes and several songs from the original make welcome returns. This isn't a big long song-fest though, I'm pleased to say. Much as I like the songs Disney movies are famed for, it is nice to give the characters time to speak and flesh themselves out in-between. Lots of scenes from the original appear again, and are interworked with the new animation reasonably well. An interesting twist is that the film is presented as if being viewed by Timon and Pumbaa in a cinema. I have seen a few reviews saying how annoying this is, but I actually find it very funny. The fact that they take shots at scenes which otherwise would be excessively cheesy is very endearing, and of course completely in character.

There are, inevitably bad points. This isn't going straight to video for nothing after all. You certainly need to have watched the original movie and know it well - and you also have to be willing to deconstruct it quite violently too. A lot of those scenes you held dear are made fun of mercilessly. They've generally interworked the timelines between the films very well, but there are a few moments when I thought "that doesn't go". The film is quite short - 72 minutes with lengthy end credits, but it is so fast passed that it seems even shorter to me. It doesn't quite know what age range it is heading for either, there are lots of "kiddie jokes", but also quite witty points that younger children won't necessarily get (I always used to wonder why my Mum insisted on watching Dangermouse with me, it's only now at 24 that I watch it and realise now). Lots of film references too. This isn't too bad in a way, it keeps everyone occupied throughout for different reasons. I'd rent it first if your not sure, but if your a Lion King fan you'll probably end up buying it anyway (you perhaps already have!)

The DVD features I actually find quite disappointing. This is a 2 disc release, and if they'd not put over 10 minutes worth of trailers on the first disc, probably could have been condensed onto one. There are several games for the youngsters including a virtual Safari, Rafiki's Challenge and a "hidden Mickey" hunt throughout the film. There's a supposedly funny "mockumentary" about Timon which I watched in total silence and a 1 minutes "making of..." featurette which I had to turn off half way through out of sheer irritation (not very much info about the film at all - but everyone involved is all certain how great it is). There are some storyboarded deleted scenes, with commentary from the directors as to why they were cut.

Overall, very enjoyable which surprised me greatly and made it even more fun. Don't start comparing to the original as that is pointless. I also don't think this sort of production should be carried on to other Disney films, I don't think it would work. However, the way these particular characters cry out for attention every time they're on screen, it seems fitting to let us find out more about them.

I would have rated this 5 stars but for the DVD "extra's" as the film I cannot fault, both for the entertainment value and the way it tells an unexpectedly heartwarming story without being too cringeworthy

I am little bit surprised that Garfield: The Movie got such negative reviews from critics. I thought it was quite cute and funny.

The plot of the movie is a silly caper. Garfield is well ensconced as John's favorite companion until John meets a cute nurse at the vets office. In trying to work up courage to ask her out, she fobs a dog off on him, Odie. Well, it doesn't take Garfield long to get jealous of the new pet in John's life and he works to get rid him. There are some very funny scenes with Garfield knocking Odie around, trying to play tricks on him, and funniest of all, competing with each other dancing.

Enter a nefarious TV personality who needs a trained animal to hit it big. After seeing Odie dancing at a dog show (another silly and funny caper) he kidnaps poor Odie. And Garfield finds he does have a heart and off to the rescue he goes.

Overall, for some light, comic entertainment the movie was enjoyable. I'm not sure how true the movie is to the comic strip as I am a sporadic reader of it, but it seemed to fit to me.

There are not really any particularly good special features in the DVD.

After going to "The Wild" this weekend with my two kids, I gotta say I don't understand all the bashing of Disney and this film? Maybe "The Wild" isn't on par with "The Lion King" or "Toy Story", but it's far from being a snoozer like "Chicken Little" or "Home on the Range". There may be similar characters in both "Madagascar" and "The Wild", but each film stands on it's own, and both are pretty enjoyable. "The Wild" was a lot of fun, had some laugh out loud moments, and featured some fantastic animation. The soundtrack was fun, and while the songs may be older, who cares, they fit the spirit of the movie. Eddie Izzard's koala bear steals the film, and had my son and daughter laughing all afternoon. I am not sure what some of these other movie goers were expecting from "The Wild" and why it was such a major disappointment, but I say that if you enjoyed "Madagascar" then you will like "The Wild" too. Anything featuring the voices of Keifer Sutherland and William Shatner is worth taking a look at.

Peabody's Improbable History may not be sophisticated animation, but it is certainly clever writing that never fails to make me smile. As with Sesame Street, some things I appreciate as much (or more) as an adult and this is one of them.

TERRA NOVA, Fox-TV's sci-fi dino-enhanced adventure series is a little bit JURASSIC PARK, a little but LOST, a little bit AVATAR, and a little bit LOST IN SPACE. The series begins on a future Earth (the year is 2149) plagued with poisonous air, over-population, greed, and crime - it's a pretty typical scenario. To escape their doomed world, groups of people are time-traveling to "Terra Nova," a settlement in the jungle 85 million years in the past. The focus here is on the Shannon family - dad Jim (Jason O'Mara) is an ex-cop serving time in prison for a "population crime" (he and his wife had one child too many), wife Elisabeth (Shelley Conn) is a surgeon, son Josh (Landon Liboiron) is a typical snarky teen, daughter Maddy (Naomi Scott) is a science nerd, and youngest daughter Zoe (Alana Mansour) is the one that got Dad in all that trouble with the Population Police.

When Elisabeth gets recruited for Terra Nova, it's the family's chance to escape their doomed world and start over. Elisabeth helps Jim escape from prison, he bribes someone to sneak Zoe out of wherever she's being kept, and they all make it through the time portal to their new world. Terra Nova is a settlement in the middle of the Cretaceous jungle, surrounded by high fences to keep out the dinosaurs. The Shannon family gets a cute little bungalow to live in and Elisabeth starts her job in the settlement's hospital. Jim starts working as a glorified gardener, but quickly proves how valuable he will be as a law enforcer. Because Terra Nova is threatened by a group of renegade settlers called "Sixers" who are hell-bent on causing trouble. Everything is run by military big-wig Nathaniel Taylor (AVATAR's Stephen Lang), whose job it is to keep both dinosaurs and Sixers at bay. There are a few LOST-style mysteries that will need watching as the series progresses - what do all those odd markings on the rocks near the waterfall mean, who are the Sixers working for, what happened to Taylor's long-lost son, and why is everyone so interested in a particular "ore"?

Overall, TERRA NOVA looks good. The intro sequences (set in the decaying Earth of 2149) are sufficiently dark and depressing, and the scenes on Terra Nova (shot in Australia) are beautifully lush and green. And the dinosaurs (you get to see three types in the pilot episode - a few cute Brachiosaurus, a scary Carnosaurus, and a bunch of made-up dinosaurs called "Slashers") aren't bad. The CGI effects here are nothing special - JURASSIC PARK did a better job back in the mid-1990's - but it's always fun to watch dinosaurs do their dinosaur thing. I just wish they would stick to real dinosaurs and not start making them up as they go along.

There's a bit too much cuteness for my taste, but this is a family drama after all. Josh's instant antagonism towards his father seems both jarring and unfounded - we see none of it in the 20-minute intro set in 2149, but the second the family goes through the time portal Josh is giving Dad no end of `tude ("You can't just come back after two years and start telling me what to do!). The budding romance between Josh (who appears to be around 16) and Skye (Allison Miller, who seems much older) doesn't quite work either - at least not yet. The same can be said for the relationship between Josh's parents, Jim and Elisabeth. They certainly don't appear to be desperately in love, nor do they behave like lovers who haven't seen each other for two years! If the series wants to focus on its characters (and on their romantic entanglements) the writers will need to do a better job making these relationships believable and identifiable.

I'm a big supporter of scripted television, so I'm pulling for TERRA NOVA. It's certainly different, and we could all use a break from all the reality garbage on TV these days. Watch the pilot and judge for yourself. I'm hoping it can build an audience as the season progresses.
